I use paint, photos and pixels, creating abstract layered pictures,
concentrating on recalled movement, structure and colour.
What interests me about memories is how they work - what triggers recollection and association of ideas, how much can we remember from a tiny stimulus, why do we remember some things and not others, what makes some things important to remember.
My "memory" drawing series are pen & pastel on paper and on layered glass. They are my exploration of how we form and recall an impression of something or someone: how their significance can be undiminished despite the forgetting of details. These delicate, evocative images rapidly emerge from subtly different takes on a recalled subject: sports and dance, play, day-to-day living.
My "visual poems" are a photographic representation of a person's remembered favourite space or object.
I have also created time-based photographic works, such as the
"Shop Front Memories" series and the "Long Slow Walk" series.
So, for this event, I've associated what another photographer has taken (with a simple disposable camera) with my memories and other ideas. Then I've created a series of four images - only available as online prints for the duration of this show - which seem to connect with the original photographs in some way.
